Zenith Registered Nurse Trainer – Disability Services

Zenith Healthcare have the pleasure and privilege to work with an amazing organisation who specialise is residential respite care with a beautiful facility located in the Perth Hills dedicated to supporting children and young people with high support needs or disabilities. Respite enables family members and carers to take a break from their permanent role as carer and enables their guests the opportunity to experience time out from their usual daily living routine and get out and about in the community.

The Exciting Opportunity:

The very important aim of this position as RN & Trainer/Educator in Disability Services is to ensure that the support workers, who play a critical role in caring for the vulnerable, deliver a safe, secure and positive participant experience.

You will be responsible for being the Lead RN at the Respite Facility where you will be providing technical training, taking a Buddy-type role in team work, actively contributing to the Support Practitioner’s skills development and growth to enhance the quality of service that the participant receives.

This role is a permanent part-time position that may become full time and/or a job share role in the future due to demand.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the effective skills development of all team members (support workers)
  • Ensure the development and delivery of practical and technical training modules
  • Ensure that all plans (Respite Support Plan, Behaviour Support Plan and Health Care Plan) are accurate, up-to-date, and followed
  • Ensure the effective provision of Buddy-based, on-the-job, and after hours coaching and support for Support Practitioners
  • Ensure the effective and accurate administration of medications and/or medical equipment
  • Ensure the effective application of first response first aid when required
  • Ensure the effective and accurate recording of incidents and accidents
  • Ensure we maintain accurate and timely records that meet our obligations, policies, and processes
  • Ensure we are respectful and inclusive of other people, independent of their race, ethnic background, religion, gender, or English language competency; and ensure the confidentiality of organisation and stakeholder information
  • Provide Buddy-based on-the-job skills development and observations of all Support Practitioners
  • Make care decisions in accordance with the ‘Health Care Plan’ and any regulatory, policy and procedure as expected of a care provider
  • Contact an ambulance for urgent medical need, or in liaison with the Respite Manager where no immediate action if required
  • Administer medications and other medical and health care procedures in accordance with the ‘Health Care Plan’

Essential Criteria:

The pre-employment eligibility requirements for this role are:

Mandatory:

  • Qualified Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years’ experience
  • Proven ability to provide technical and practical medical procedural training
  • Proven medical experience particularly dealing with: – Enteral feeding – Epilepsy Management – Infection Control – Tracheostomy Care – Catheter and Bowel Care
  • Experience working with children and/or young people with disabilities
  • Senior first aid and CPR qualification
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Australian C driver’s licence

Desired:

  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
  • Certificate IV in Disability Services
  • Behavioural support training
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) for employees
  • NDIS Quality, Safety & You Worker Orientation Module (online)
  • NDIS Worker Screening; and Manual handling training
